If you want to make money in any niche, you must first understand that niche completely… Paying attention to everything including your competition, your target customer, the industry and its trends and areas that are not being exploited all come into play… Someone I know decided to become an expert regarding the seattle house market. Before they even got in the game, they spent countless hours researching everything there was to know about the subject, finding what the customer wants that the market isn’t providing is crucial!
Last weekend I got together with a girl I am close with and it felt like she was not really paying attention to much at all… I asked her what was wrong and she proceeded to give me this long drawn out story of a big project coming up at work and the fact that there aren’t enough people working on it due to recent layoffs. She also appeared to be extremely worried as to the security of her job. Unfortunately, I find it hard to relate because I’ve been working in the how to make money online niche for quite some time now and I’m not afraid of loosing my job due to the fact that I’m self employed… Honestly, after knowing what I know now, I would never want to trade shoes with her.
There are almost a million ways to pay the bills but the ones that rich people like to do most often seem to revolve around passive and residual income. Niche marketing on the internet is extremely centered on gaining passive revenue streams… I know a seattle commercial photographer that has done very well positioning himself in a niche and building a portfolio of stock images that generate him a very nice income stream.
The point is that niche marketing is extremely important when trying to sell a product or service. Focusing on a single effort makes a lot more sense then trying to push a broad range of unrelated topics… Why work twice as hard to be half as successful? Who’s the cutest baby on the planet?

Now, before you start thinking that I’m full of myself, let me explain what this is really all about.
In a blog post I made, I talked about the need for your site to actually be related to the links that point to it. One example I gave was the cutest baby on the planet search phrase, versus the miserable failure search phrase.
In the past, searching for “miserable failure” brought up a completely unrelated web page. Due to Google’s new algorithm that does away with the “Google bomb” or “link bomb” effect, that is no longer the case.
My post discussed why this doesn’t work anymore.
In one of the comments on that post, Alex Newell suggested that I setup a site and try to get it to rank for the phrase “cutest baby on the planet”, using the site to test various linking strategies and methods, etc.
Thus my the cutest baby in the world site was born.
What I am attempting to prove is that by following the directions Google gives in its Webmaster Guidelines, you can rank a site for a keyword phrase using 100% “white hat” methods.
In the pages of the site you will see outlined the methods I am using, and the progress I am making in implementing each of the steps from Google’s guidelines.
As of right now, the site is ranked #1 in Google for “cutest baby on the planet”, but I also want to be ranked #1 for “cutest baby on the planet”, so I’m still working on it.
